2018-05 March 28, 2018 Legislative Report: Wrapping up FY 2018 Appropriations

By Cynthia Hilton, Legislative AdvisorMarch 28, 2018

Despite a last minute veto threat, the US President signed H.R. 1625, now P.L. 115-141, a $1.3 trillion spending bill to fund the Federal Government through September 30, 2018, ending the FY 2018 appropriations process. The action, nearly six months into the fiscal year, averted another government shutdown, and, based on February’s two-year budget deal increasing spending caps, many federal agencies, including PHMSA’s Office of Hazardous Materials Safety (OHMS), received appropriations above the President’s FY 2018 budget request. In fact, OHMS’ FY 2018 appropriation is $2 million more that the cap authorized in the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act, or “FAST” Act.

In this report, snapshots are provided of OHMS Authorization & Appropriations, Emergency Preparedness Grant (EPG) Programs, and PHMSA Headquarters Operational.
